L.A. Fashion District to Party Down(town)

The Los Angeles Fashion District and Reveal Los Angeles, the upcoming fashion and design event organized by IDG World Expo, will host a party on Oct. 17 in downtown Los Angeles with co-sponsors the California Market Center, The New Mart, the Cooper Design Space and The Gerry Building.

Held in a tented space on the CMC’s front patio from 6 to 9 p.m., “Downtown at Dusk: An Evening of Downtown Fashion” will feature a fashion presentation with several contemporary brands, including BCBG, Poleci, Robert Rodriguez, Suh-Tahn and YaYa.

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa is scheduled to be on hand to officially open the Spring 2009 market and is expected to speak to the invitation-only crowd at Downtown at Dusk about the Los Angeles fashion industry’s importance and impact on the city.

Mary Dolaher, chief executive officer of IDG World Expo, will share some details about Reveal Los Angeles, which is scheduled to debut March 20–22, 2009, at L.A. Live and at the CMC. The event will combine runway shows at L.A. Live with a fashion expo planned for the CMC’s Exhibition Hall.

Sue Wong Moves Party to CMC

Los Angeles–based dress designer Sue Wong will host a cocktail party and informal modeling at the CMC on Oct. 17 before the Downtown at Dusk event.

The invitation-only event will be held 4:30–6 p.m. at the CMC lobby and will showcase highlights from the designer’s Spring 2009 collection.

Wong has been a longtime participant on the roster at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City, Calif., often staging elaborate runway shows—some accompanied by live musicians or dancers. Last season, the designer opened her 1920s-era home in Los Angeles’ Los Feliz neighborhood to host a 1920s-themed party that provided a fitting backdrop to her glamorous gowns.

Wong’s runway shows and last season’s party drew many of her key retailers. For Spring ’09, the designer will bring the party to the retailers when she presents her latest collection in a less-formal setting.
