Former Ben Sherman sales rep Chris Cantrell has been looking for a home for his growing collection of lines and finally found one at the Lady Liberty Building.

“It’s like a New York loft here, with wood floors, exposed brick and big wood beams,” Cantrell said of his new space, which he moved into about two months ago.

Cantrell is selling his own men’s sportswear line, Takel, as well as menswear lines Robert Graham, Simple Standards, Chip & Pepper University and Pleasure Ground Eyewear. The lines represent American lifestyle clothing at its best, Cantrell said.

Robert Graham has shot up to the top of the men’s shirt market in less than six years, with its array of color, detail and fabrications. Cantrell carries the entire collection, which includes knits and jackets. Prices range from $85 to $190.

Takel, produced by Cantrell and four others, is wholesale priced from $30 and takes a nondenim approach to men’s sportswear with woven plaid shirts, shorts and chinos. “It’s clean and understated.”

Rounding out the offerings is Simple Standards from New York, featuring knits, cashmere blends and fashion-forward jackets from $59 to $159 and Chip & Pepper University, highlighting novelty tees from $17 and up. The current collection offers fashionable takes on college and university tees. Cantrell also carries Pleasure Ground eyewear from Encinitas, Calif., designer Tom Kabbash, which features transitional sunglasses for men and women at a $95 retail price point. The glasses are made with unbreakable nylon, and all lenses are polarized.

The showroom also houses premium-denim line Proportion of Blu, Quiksilver Women, Christopher Fischer Men and Canterbury of New Zealand, which sublet space in the showroom, and sales are handled by corporate representatives, who are often in the showroom.

“We’re honest. We communicate and offer the best customer service possible,” Cantrell said. —Robert McAllister
