GlobalTex Names New Business-Development Exec

The new GlobalTex textile show, debuting in Los Angeles in April, has appointed David Pennes as its vice president of new business development.

Pennes is known to many in the apparel industry for his years of heading the international sourcing show section of the MAGIC Marketplace, held twice a year in Las Vegas.

The announcement came from the textile show’s organizers, Dallas-based Market Center Management Co., which manages the Dallas Market Center, the ShanghaiMart in China and the LatinAmerican Trade Mart, opening in 2011 in Bogotaacute;, Colombia. It also owns the Brussels International Trade Mart in Belgium.

Earlier this year, Market Center Management announced it would launch a new textile show twice a year at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The show is officially called GlobalTex: L.A. International Textile Fair. The first show will take place April 28–30, 2009, featuring textile exhibitors from around the world. The second show will be held Oct. 13–15, 2009.

This is the second new textile show slated for Los Angeles. Urban Expositions, headquartered outside of Atlanta, announced it would stage an annual textile show at the Los Angeles Convention Center every fall. Its first event, called Material World West, is planned for Sept. 30–Oct. 2, 2009. The show is an official event of the American Apparel & Footwear Association, the apparel and textile trade group based in Arlington, Va.

The two new shows will join the longstanding Los Angeles International Textile Show, organized by the California Market Center and held twice a year at the CMC.

Pennes comes on board at GlobalTex in November, leaving his position with MAGIC International, run by Advanstar Communications Inc., where he has worked as show director and international sales manager for the large sourcing show. He was with MAGIC for nine years.

“David’s impressive track record of creating and managing leading trade events is matched by his vast industry knowledge and international business expertise,” MCMO Chief Operating Officer Cindy Morris said in a statement. —Deborah Belgum
