L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Fremont

Fremont brought its hipster sensibility to the runway Oct. 16 at BoxEight in Los Angeles with a collection inspired by classic Americana and the Hamptons. Designers Brittany Pham and Devin Carlson design for the hip set, who are looking for a casual-chic edge. The collection, which was featured in Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion in 2006, was full of easy Americana-inspired sportswear that is on target for Spring. Pham said she pictured a downtown girl going to the Hamptons and wearing comfortable, easy pieces. For women, there were rompers with cute nautical prints, a strapless dress that paired back with a trench coat and a subtly chic navy jumpsuit. And, of course, the collection wouldn’t be complete without a swimsuit—with a crisscross top and high-waist bottom, the style was retro cool for the beach. For guys, Carlson created an uuml;ber-hip look with classic slim-cut pieces and refined fabrics. Color was key, and the designer focused on creating more depth with this collection.
