L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Samora

French fashions often raise eyebrows, and Los Angeles–based label Samora hoped French cachet would give its Spring 2009 collection some Gallic joie de vivre.

Samora produced a 45-look show at Culver City, Calif.’s Smashbox Studios for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Oct. 16. The look was that of romantic mid-20th century Paris rather than the sometimes harder-edged city of current French President Nicolas Sarkozy.

One of the show’s looks was a black, high-gathered-collar top worn with a white high-waist pencil skirt. Another was a black-and-white pin-striped sailor top finished off with a bow tie. Fuchsia seemed to make a splash at the show. Samora showed a fuchsia trench coat over a floral-print bodysuit for one look. Another look was a fuchsia pleated-corset worn over a sleeveless trapeze dress. —Andrew Asch
