L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Trovata

Trovata brought its brand of low-key preppy cool to West Hollywood, Calif., with a rooftop party at the Palihouse. The Orange County, Calif.–based line threw a Los Angeles Fashion Week bash to celebrate the launch of its Spring ’09 collection and the opening of the luxury hotel.

The Palihouse’s aesthetic is similar to Trovata’s, so it was a natural place in which to stage a mutual celebration. Guests included friends, fashion-industry insiders and supporters of the brand. There were hors d’oeuvres and eco-friendly cocktails by VeeV for guests to enjoy while listening to the folksy music of Robert Francis—one of designer John Whitledge’s favorite bands.

Trovata has primarily held its fashion shows and events in New York in recent years, including the Spring ’09 runway show. Whitledge said he felt it was time to bring the celebration back home to Southern California. “New York Fashion Week is all about the clothes, and L.A. Fashion Week doesn’t necessarily get the love that it deserves,” he said. “We wanted to do something that was for our friends and for everyone that has supported us and not make it about the clothes, but make it more about having a good time.” —N.
