L.A. Fashion Week Spring '09: Andrew Christian

The party started late at the Oct. 17 runway show for Andrew Christian at Boulevard 3 nightclub in Hollywood.

No one seemed to mind the delay, which gave the crowd plenty of time to get acquainted before the runway show for the Los Angeles–based menswear designer.

Christian opened the show with his Black List sportswear collection, which featured woven shirts and trousers with a trim fit and crisp and casual shorts and tees that mixed preppy and sports styling.

“It’s all the things I would want to wear,” the designer said. “I was making them for myself.”

But the main event was the designer’s underwear and swimwear, which was modeled by a succession of muscle-bound models. The designer’s mischievous nature was evident in the briefs that read “Police Department” across the back and featuring a graphic of handcuffs. Another style read “Fire Department” with images of flames.

Christian also showed women’s styles, including lace boyshorts and bralettes in black and bridal white and some sporty styles with contrast piping. —Alison A. Nieder
