Plant Closure

UCO Fabrics Inc., a specialty denim manufacturer, plans to close its plant in Rockingham, N.C., and lay off 198 workers. Competition from lower-priced textiles made around the world has been a challenge for the company, which is based in Rockingham. The plant closure should be completed by Dec. 21. The company’s head office also will be closed. Last year, UCO closed its spinning plant in Snyder, Texas, laying off 27 people. UCO Fabrics is a joint venture between Raymond Ltd., one of India’s largest textile and apparel makers, and UCO of Belgium.
