W Jewelry: Designer-Inspired With a Local Twist

One of the fashion industry’s and Hollywood’s top costume designers’ favorite stops in the Los Angeles Fashion District is the Details showroom, located on the ground floor of the California Market Center. The 25-year-old fixture is loaded with moderately priced costume jewelry and accessories.

Faye Weitz acquired the business about three years ago and almost immediately launched a higher-end line of fashion jewelry called The W Collection. The line has grown steadily and is entering into a new stage of business, some of which is being handed off to the Sharon Koshet Sales showroom, where it is being sold to name boutiques across the country.

W is designer-inspired but is interpreted for the local marketplace by Weitz and assistant Julie DeAnda, who design and manufacture the line in Los Angeles. Wholesale priced from $30 to $80, the line features 14-karat-gold– and silver-plated pieces, Swarovski crystal detailing, natural stones, and no nickel or lead.

“Our customers are a mix of contemporary and misses, so we don’t try to go too over the top with design. It’s more classy,” Weitz said. Some Gothic necklaces currently in the line are about as trendy as the company will get, she said.

Hollywood loves it, Weitz said. The line was recently featured on the new “90210” show and will be featured in the upcoming Adam Sandler movie “Bedtime Stories.”

Costume designers such as Debra McGuire are among TV and movie outfitters who regularly shop the line, Weitz said. They like its look of luxury as well as the price points.

Because The W Collection is made in Los Angeles, Weitz is able to provide quick turnaround and some customization. For more information, call (213) 623-6689. —Robert McAllister
