Project Runway on the Outs?

On Friday, Sept. 26, a preliminary injunction was ordered by New York Supreme Court Justice Richard B. Lowe in the lawsuit filed by NBC Universal against the Weinstein Co., producers of the hit reality show “Project Runway.”

The temporary injuction bars the Weinstein Co. from taking “Project Runway” or any spinoff of the show to the Lifetime network and contends that the Weinstein Co. violated NBC's “right of first refusal” for the show.

Earlier this year, the Weinstein Co. announced a move to the Lifetime network for the show’s sixth season, which was scheduled to debut in January 2009. This time around, the show was filmed in Los Angeles.

The judge also ruled that Lifetime and the Weinstein Co. cannot promote, market or air “Project Runway.”

Lifetime intends to “pursue all measures” to make sure it airs the show's sixth season. Both parties were ordered to return to court on Oct. 15.
