New Resources Guide: Storee

Designer Mario Baltazar draws on his background in art history and passion for contemporary art to create Storee, his Los Angeles–based women’s collection.

Previously a designer for a women’s dress collection Single, Baltazar launched Storee in 2007. The collection evolved from “item-driven” to a full ready-to-wear collection for Fall 2009.

Inspired by “American Sportswear and the tartan-plaid influence of the English countryside,” the new collection runs the gamut from dresses and feminine tops to slim trousers and exaggerated wide-leg jumpsuits. “We have added constructed pieces to the line that include menswear-inspired trousers, tailored jackets and trench coats,” Baltazar said. “We’ve also created some standout pieces such as wool-blend jumpsuits with leather trim and detailing. These structured pieces have helped to form our collection as a true lifestyle brand,” he continued. “The jackets, trousers and coats can be paired effortlessly with our softer signatures (vintage blouses and printed silks)—mixed and matched to provide a complete wardrobe.”

Top retailers include Kitson, Barneys New York and Nordstrom Savvy. Made in Los Angeles, some production for the line is done overseas. Storee is the sister brand to recently launched label Jonesy, both from apparel company Offline Inc. —Dena Smolek
