Familiar Face in the 'Project Runway' Lineup

Now that Lifetime is finally getting ready to air the (nearly lost) sixth season of “Project Runway,” the new home of the popular fashion reality show has released the names and bios of the designers competing for that $100,000 prize. The site even has a countdown clock to the premiere on Aug. 20.
Among the lineup I recognized one: John Sakalis (although, he’s now known—at least at Lifetime—as “Johnny”). Sakalis was a regular on the runway at Los Angeles Fashion Week ages ago —in the early oughts. He debuted his first solo show in April 2003 and then hit the runwa ys at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios and its predecessor Smashbox Fashion Week.
You can check out some of his past work here, here and here. Or just wait for the show to see what he’s been up to more recently.
Hollywood Life’s Emili Vesilind is gearing up for the new season, noting that guest stars include Lindsay Lohan and Christina Aguilera. To that I add, “Project Runway” alum Nick Verreos and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa are reportedly also featured.
And the setting should be familiar to those of us on the West Coast, as well. Season six was shot at the Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising in downtown Los Angeles. And the crew did their fabric shopping at a pop-up version of Mood that opened at the California Market Center.
