Place Showroom

Cooper Design Space Suite 1130 (213) 243-0741

Youthful, colorful and shiny, the Place Showroom in the Cooper Design Space is a reflection of owner Leah Oseran’s bright outlook on fashion. Ensconced for more than a year in a sunny 3,400-square-foot corner of the building’s topmost floor, Place got its start four years ago in much smaller digs in the same building. “We’ve grown so much, but our approach and energy is the same. I only work with brands that I truly believe in and can partner with and help nurture. Everything here—from the striped walls and the flirty, youthful product and the deacute;cor—works together,” Oseran said. “Everything is fresh, and the vibe is great.”

Place’s brands sit firmly in the contemporary category and range from premium denim and loungewear to full collections. 6126, Lindsay Lohan’s leggings collection, shares space with up-and-coming Los Angeles–based label Pleasure Doing Business. Boulee—a contemporary collection packed with silk dresses, tops and fur vests—hangs alongside Bread and Butter, a collection of preppy knit and woven separates. Hussy—which, as its name implies, is a line packed with flirty, body-conscious pieces—gets along great with colored jeans from Denim of Virtue. Naven’s candy-colored silk miniskirts and minimalist feminine blouses work well with Noble Youth’s vintage-inspired frocks and Jonesy’s colorful printed blouses.

Among the diverse but complementary brands, Oseran sees smart buys for her retailers.

“It is an item-driven business right now. It’s all about who can create just the right product at the perfect time and at the right price point for the retailer. Whoever can do that will win,” Oseran said. “We all need that ’it’ item to survive.” Where in past seasons, leggings were the must-have buy, now banded miniskirts in multitudes of lengths and colors from Pleasure Doing Business are one hot item. “It’s so easy and versatile, and the price point is perfect,” Oseran said.
