Sugar Inc. Acquires Shopflick

San Francisco–based Sugar Inc. has acquired Los Angeles–based Shopflick (www.shopflick.com), an e-tail Web site incorporating online video to sell products, for an undisclosed sum.

Shopflick founder and Chief Executive Officer David Grant, the former president of Fox Television Studios, will serve as president of Sugar Inc.’s new Sugar Digital Entertainment arm, which will expand the Sugar brand through online video, television, film, video games and other related content. Shopflick will also enable Sugar’s social-shopping site ShopStyle to spearhead new video-driven commerce for its merchant partners.

“Sugar Digital Entertainment, run by an executive with a successful track record in television and digital, will leverage our brand and expertise into online video, TV and film,” said Sugar Inc. founder and Chief Executive Officer Brian Sugar in a statement. “Shopflick’s team and online video expertise will enable ShopStyle to further leverage the powerful relationship between content and commerce, an area of vast potential online.”

Grant added, “I am excited about finding a terrific home for the Shopflick team and the opportunity to turn our vision of video-driven shopping into reality for the millions of women who visit Sugar every month.”

Sugar Inc. runs a network of lifestyle Web sites geared toward women, which include PopSugar, FabSugar and BellaSugar. Shopflick launched in 2008 and highlights independent, up-and-coming designers. —Connie Cho
