Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall '09: Single

The banquet hall of a Russian restaurant was the right place to show the Fall 2009 collection of Los Angeles–based fashion label Single. The collection, called Russian Roulette, was shown March 16 at Maxim in Los Angeles.

One of the collection’s inspirations was Yves St. Laurent’s 1976 Ballet Russes collection. The 23 pieces of Single’s Fall line also sported Russian names such as “Olga” and “Larissa.” Yet other elements of the line were taken from the brand’s proverbial DNA.

Silk remained one of the main ingredients for Single’s dresses. Many of the dresses bore novelty prints, a key part of Single’s design aesthetic. The 2009 Fall line also used darker colors, vintage lace, beaded chiffon and leather, which bought to mind another inspiration for the collection: the 1980s rocker. —Andrew Asch
