New Resources Guide: Jezebell

Michael Kim, who has more than 20 years of experience as a private-label manufacturer in China for American retail chains, is expanding his branded juniors line, Jezebell.

Kim launched Jezebell five years ago in Carson, Calif., as a denim and non-denim woven bottoms line with a “casual, sexy, California trendy” juniors style. The line grew to include jackets, outerwear and related pieces in the same woven fabrics as the pants.

Kim continues to cultivate Jezebell with the addition of woven shirts and tunic dresses last year. Kim had an edge going into the plaid-shirt game for the Fall ’09 Back-to-School season with a database of more than 300 trademarked plaid prints to choose from. For the new shirt line, Kim freshens up the color palette and adds treatments such as wrinkle treatments on flannel.

“When we believe in a certain silhouette, we drive it,” said Leonard Forman of Jezebell. The template of a men’s plaid button-down shirt is tweaked with a feminine fashion hand. Shirts feature Western-style pockets, girly pintucked bibs, ruffled bibs, short puffed sleeves and rolled-up sleeves. Styles come in standard top lengths or tunic-length dresses. —Rhea Cortado
