Standard Showroom

Looking around the Standard Showroom, Huy Dang can point to one of his nine lines and find something in almost every price point. “That is so important right now—having the right prices—but so is having the right item. There has to be a balance,” he said. In his multi-line showroom, Dang has two T-shirt lines, a men’s premium-denim line, men’s and women’s contemporary lines, and a handful of accessories and eyewear lines. The common thread among the Standard’s disparate lines is an understated crispness—something that seems to be resonating more with buyers than flash and sparkles.

Going into the Los Angeles Fashion Market, Huy said he is cautiously optimistic, given the response his lines’ Fall offerings enjoyed in Las Vegas. “Right now we have to do three times the work to get orders in, but with the economy as it is, it’s to be expected,” he said. “We’ve got great buyers coming in for market.”

Earning plenty of interest is Siva, a new men’s T-shirt brand that offers cool printed T-shirts as well as fashion blanks. Wholesale prices for blanks range from $7.50 to $25 for a hoodie. Printed T-shirts start at $13 and top out at $45 for a hoodie.

Fiber & Fellow, a fledgling menswear brand out of Long Beach, Calif., has a strong Fall offering of classic outerwear. Wholesale prices for the line range from $20 to $135. Special, a new Los Angeles–based brand of men’s premium denim, gives denimheads the super-clean looks they crave for $52–$56 wholesale. The edited collection, which already sells in Japan, features three fits: slim, straight and relaxed.

Josh Podoll, a Los Angeles–based men and women’s contemporary line, is enjoying brisk sales as an opening price point offering in better boutiques. For Fall, draped and soft silhouettes for men and women come in a somber color palette. Wholesale prices range from $30 to $100. Canadian women’s contemporary line Lily + Jae plays with prints, quirky suiting and grownup tomboy styles. Wholesale prices for the line start at $20 and top out at $155.
