Tapping into the Mommy Market at Mom2b

This season, Mom2b, the trade show for maternity apparel and pregnancy-related products, moved from the first floor of the California Market Center to The Penthouse on the CMC’s 13th floor.

The show drew high marks for concept and organization, but many exhibitors said traffic was less than at previous shows.

Still, there were plenty of new lines, including Ta-Ta For Now, a line of apparel designed for nursing mothers. Designed, manufactured and based in San Francisco, the collection features contemporary looks such as a draped-front tank top with a hidden clasp on the strap that can be opened for nursing.

Kicky Pants, a 2-year-old collection based in Los Angeles, returned to Mom2b after showing in the trade show’s Las Vegas run last year. The company was showing its Kicky Pants line and its eco-collection, Bamboo Basics.

Nick Cloke, who owns the company with his wife, Erin, said traffic seemed a bit slow, but said he was seeing a mix of both new and existing customers. “For every two clients we see, there’s one new,” he said, adding, “Most of the shows we do are kids’ shows, which are a little more recession-proof.” —Alison A.
