Mon Atelier Headlines Charity Fashion Show

A female-dominated crowd dressed in chipper Spring sheath dresses, matching skirt-suit sets and wide-brim hats accentuated with festive flowers packed the Beverly Hills Hotel ballroom for an “Afternoon With Eve,” hosted by The Mannequins, an auxiliary of the nonprofit Assistance League of Southern California.

The May 14 event included a charity-shopping event, lunch, live auction, a 90th-anniversary vintage-fashion show and Mon Atelier fashion show to benefit Family Service Agency, Adult Day Services, Children’s Services and Theater for Children.

Guest designer Ali Rahimi of Mon Atelier presented a sampling of skirt and jacket sets, cocktail dresses, and evening gowns from his made-to-order salon in Los Angeles, where several members of The Mannequins are clients.

Rahimi’s inherent taste for traditional elegance played well to the audience of put-together society ladies. The designer melded the standard skirt-suit silhouette with fashion-forward details such as voluminous sleeves, peplums or a clavicle-framing collar. In the eveningwear portion, a blue gown with a gold beaded waist and diaphanous chiffon skirt was classically beautiful. A metallic-lace dress embellished all over with dime-size paillettes, which would sell in the $10,000 to $12,000 range, was a show-stopper. —Rhea Cortado
