Brazilian Sanctions
Brazil has drawn up a list of 222 U.S. products that would be subject to tariff increases after a World Trade Organization ruling this year condemned U.S. subsidies to the cotton industry. The list has a wide variety of products, from textiles and bar-code readers to plums, potatoes and cherries. A final list is expected by Nov. 30, and sanctions could be in place by next year. The WTO ruled in June that Brazil could impose retaliatory measures against U.S. cotton subsidies that Brazil alleged caused more than $3 billion in damages to its industry.
