GlobalTex Panel to Tackle Copyright Issues

Textile copyright and design piracy are on the agenda at an Oct. 14 seminar at the GlobalTex trade show at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

Hosted by the California Fashion Association and moderated by CFA President Ilse Metchek, the event, titled “Design Copyright: Is It Protection or License to Steal?,” features a panel of industry executives discussing trademark and copyright issues as they pertain to apparel manufacturers and to textile makers.

The panel includes Vera Campbell of Knit Works/Design Zone Inc.; Lonnie Kane of Karen Kane Inc.; Mitch Naidrich of Malibu Textiles; Howard Scott of Coast To Coast Textiles; and Scott Shaw, an attorney with Call, Jensen & Ferrell.

Metchek will also discuss the proposed Design Piracy Protection Act, which seeks to extend copyright protection to fashion designs.

The panel will be held from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Seminar Suite. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served after the seminar.

The event is one of several seminars and trend presentations on the slate at GlobalTex. For a complete list of events, click here.—Alison A. Nieder
