Stalking Horse

The S&K Menswear chain may be out of business, but its name is worth something to The Buxbaum Group of Agoura Hills. The group, headed by Paul Buxbaum, has been chosen as the stalking-horse bidder for S&K’s intellectual-property rights. S&K filed bankruptcy in February, with its 150 stores closing and its merchandise liquidated by Gordon Brothers Retail Partners. Buxbaum is bidding $165,000 for the defunct company’s store name as well as its private brands—Roberto Villinni, Kilburne & Finch and Daniel Gray—and its database of 2.5 million customers. Buxbaum’s bid is subject to higher bids and approval by the bankruptcy court. The bid deadline is Nov. 6, and the auction date is Nov. 10.
