New at Premiegrave;re Vision: PV Awards

The organizers of Premiegrave;re Vision have launched the PV Awards at the Sept. 15–18 run of the textile trade show in Paris.

The contest was launched to “showcase the richness of textile creation” and “to reward the most outstanding fabrics created by the salon’s exhibitors.”

Led by Hermegrave;s Menswear Artistic Director Veronique Nichanian, a jury of industry executives selected 62 fabrics to compete in four categories. The “Grand Prize” will be given to the fabric that is most exceptional, pertinent and “the most symbolic of the coming fashion zeitgeist. The “Handle Prize” will be awarded based on tactile qualities that “[touch] senses and the emotions.” The fabric determined to be the most technologically and creatively innovative will receive the “Innovation Prize.” The “Imagination Prize” will be given to “the most daring, the most original, the most surprising fabric in terms of fiber, technique, decoration or finishing.”

Other members of the jury include Fabrizio Flaccomio, senior designer and head of fabric research for Prada; U.K. journalist Oliver Horton; Hirofumi Kurino, senior advisor and creative advisor of United Arrows; Nicolas Lepoutre, coordinator of fabric research for Louis Vuitton; Florence Miller, fashion historian and professor at IFM Paris; Marc Ossedat, designer for Le Printemps; Kevin Tallon, creative intelligence manager for Central-Saint Martins; and Pascaline Wilhelm, fashion director for Premiegrave;re Vision.

The 62 fabrics were on display on opening day of the show in the General Forum. Winners are being announced on Sept. 18.

Held at the Parc d’Expositions Paris Nord Villepinte, this edition of Premiegrave;re Vision featured the Autumn/Winter 2010/2011 textile collections from nearly 700 exhibitors.
