Mall Food--Redefined

Last Tuesday, I dropped by my local shopping mall—Americana at Brand, the Glendale, Calif., lifestyle mall created by Grove developer Rick Caruso, and found myself in a packed crowd that looked more like the Christmas crush in a booming economy.

The Tuesday-night draw: gourmet food trucks and specials at the mall’s restaurants.

The March 30 event—dubbed Street Feast by the mall—was the first of its kind at Americana and featured nine food trucks, including the CoolHaus truck—the architecture-themed ice cream truck—and the Grilled Cheese Truck, which have been roving the streets of Los Angeles.

There were also plenty of activities at the Americana’s tenants, including wine tasting at Amici, barbeque at Jewel City Diner and cupcakes at Crumbs Bake Shop.

Mall organizers haven’t planned to reprise the event—but judging from the crowds lined up to sample the wares, it could be a regular feature at The Americana.
