Levi's, Filson Get to Work

San Francisco–based Levi Strauss & Co. has announced yet another collaboration, this time with Filson, the Seattle-based maker of rough-and-tumble garments for outdoorsmen. Together, Levi’s and Filson have created Levi’s Workwear by Filson, a collection of men’s apparel and accessories made of rigid denim, oil finish tin cloth, rugged twill, genuine bridle leather and brass hardware. The collection, which carries a lifetime guarantee, debuts in August and will sell at Levi’s and Filson bricks-and-mortar retail and online stores.

“Levi’s and Filson’s celebrated workwear products helped equip the pioneers who built America and continue to be embraced today by the new American pioneers who are reshaping the landscape of America,” Carl Chiara, director of men’s and women’s brand concepts for Levi’s, said in a statement. “The Levi’s brand has been renowned for its artisanship, quality and reliability since inventing the blue jean in 1873, and our partnership with Filson is a natural, authentic extension of these trailblazing brand values.”

The Levi’s Workwear by Filson collection, which is made in Seattle, is a true mash-up of Levi’s and Filson brands. For example, a classic Levi’s trucker jacket is cut from Filson’s tin cloth, and Filson’s cruiser jacket is cut from Levi’s rigid denim. Retail prices for the collection range from $50 to $228.

Levi’s has made a habit of unlikely collaborations. Most recently, it announced a collaboration with the high-end menswear brand Brooks Brothers but has also collaborated with the estate of Andy Warhol, Opening Ceremony, Engineered Garments, Henry Holland, Obey, Nike and Junya Watanabe.—Erin Barajas
