New Members for Fashion District Board

At its Dec. 9 monthly meeting, members of the Los Angeles Fashion District Business Improvement District, which encompasses 115 blocks in downtown Los Angeles, elected six new members for three-year terms.

Because of six-year term limits enacted in 2004, more members left the 15-member board than usual.

The new members added were Dan Bartholomew of Griffin & Dunn, Harvey Flax of Flax Trust, Jorge Flores of Sale Trust, Herb Glaser of Glaser Development Co., Brian Taban of Jade Enterprises LLC and John van den Akker of 1127 Maple Ave. LLC.

Outgoing members were Steve Hirsh, owner of the Cooper Design Space; Lance Kluger of Maple BK Properties; Elisa Mermelstein-Keller of Maple & Griffith Properties LLC; Barry Gold of DAK Enterprises; and Laurie Sale of SOS Building Fund.

The Los Angeles Fashion District was the first property-based business improvement district in Los Angeles when it was formed in 1996.

Every year, property owners contribute to operate the BID, which employs security personnel to monitor the area as well as cleanup crews and other personnel to make sure the district is a better place to do business.—Deborah Belgum
