Lady Gaga followers were buzzing on what the reigning diva of both song and outlandish style would wear to the 2010 Grammy Awards, held last night at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The singer went with custom designs by Giorgio Armani—the venerable designer went fashion forward and beyond with Lady Gaga’s futuristic outfit choices.

For the red carpet, the Grammy nominee (and winner) was encircled by swirling orbital rings in a space-age Armani Privé design with matching crystallized, metallic heels. While the singer often opts for jewel-encrusted sunglasses or other face-obscuring accessories, she went with a fresh face. Her accessory of choice, instead, was a multi-pointed, giant star to possibly clear her way through the red carpet from those afraid of being impaled.

Onstage for her performance with Elton John, Lady Gaga wore an ultra-high-cut green sequin bodysuit (reminding ladies everywhere to make an appointment with the waxer) with oversized, bold shoulders. This time she did go with a pink mask of sparkles.

Backstage after she had collected her awards for Best Dance Recording and Best Electronic/Dance Album, Ms. Gaga wore a geometric headpiece—reminiscent of Superman’s fortress of solitude—and a shorter dress with a head-to-toe nude, sequined body suit.
