New Stuff, Coming Through

Collaborations are to J Brand as pop-up shops are to designers. That is to say, they're fun and temporary and showcase a new side of a brand. All good things.

Proenza Schouler, J Brand’s latest collaborators, debuted their high-waisted skinny, paint-splattered jeans last night on the runway during New York Fashion Week. The Fall 2010 jeans were the first-ever denim pieces for the hipper-than-hip NYC brand, and I like to think of them as a little piece of proof that New Yorkers have a soft spot for L.A., the land of premium denim. The designers, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, went so far as to open their show with the jeans. And I think any denim head worth his/her salt will agree: those jeans have J Brand written all over them… under the Pollock-style paint splatters, that is. Skinnier than skinny, prefectly trim, nice and stretchy—those are the J Brand hallmarks.

Past collaborators include designers Hussein Chalayan and Henry Duarte. J Brand has also collaborated with Topshop. I wonder who is next?
