Invista's 'Hard-Working' Denim

Denim has always traded on its durable workwear roots. Now Invista is out to make denim even more hard-working—and comfortable.

The Wilmington, Del.–based fiber maker launched a new line of Hard Working Comfort Cordura Denim fabrics, which feature improved durability and comfort.

Made from a blend of Invista’s T420 nylon 6.6 fiber and cotton, Cordura denim has the look of traditional denim made from 100 percent cotton. Jeans made from Cordura denim last 50 percent to 60 percent longer than traditional denim when laundered industrially, according to the company. And Invista says the fabric is three times more resistant to abrasion than standard denim.

The company recently conducted a blind wear trial, in which participants were asked to compare prototype pairs of Cordura Denim jeans and the same style made from 100 percent cotton denim. According to Invista, participants found the Cordura Denim jeans durable, comfortable and softer than 100 percent cotton jeans. The Cordura Denim held a darker blue color better, even after repeated industrial laundering, according to an Invista release.

Cordura Denim fabrics and garments will be available from Karachi, Pakistan–based Artistic Milliners (Pvt.) Ltd. Invista and Artistic Milliners work together to optimize the performance characteristics of the Cordura Denim.

“After thorough testing and engineering in the lab, we are pleased to say that the Cordura Denim fabric exhibits exceptional abrasion resistance and durability without any compromise in comfort or aesthetics,” said Omer Ahmed, Artistic Milliners’ vice president of global sourcing.

Founded in 1949, Artistic Milliners is a vertically integrated textile company that offers denim fabrics and garments, including package deals such as product development, design support, short lead times and warehousing.
