JCPenney to Launch Exclusive Supergirl Collection

JCPenney will debut the Supergirl by Nastia collection, created in partnership with Warner Bros./DC Comics and Olympic gymnast Nastia Liukin.

Liukin took home the gold medal for the gymnastics all-around finals at the 2008 Olympics, as well as silver medals for team, balance beam and uneven bars and a bronze medal for floor exercise.

Supergirl by Nastia will be available July 20 exclusively at all JCPenney stores and online at www.jcp.com. Created for girls ages 8 to 12, the collection will include signature Supergirl T-shirts, fleece, dresses, tunics, knit pants, dancewear, leggings and shrugs. Retail prices range from $20 to $38.

JCPenney is one of the sponsors of this year’s Supergirl Jam, a series of surf, skate, snowboard and inline skating contests.

Now in its fourth year, Supergirl Jam is produced by ASA Entertainment and Warner Bros. Consumer Products on behalf of DC Comics, owners of the Supergirl trademark. The event will feature more than 100 top female athletes, including both professional athletes, as well as up-and-coming amateurs.

The event includes three separate events. The first was the Supergirl Am Jam at Skatelab in Simi Valley, Calif. Amateur skaters competed on June 30 at the indoor skatepark for a spot in the pro competition at the Supergirl Jam in Venice Beach.

The Supergirl Pro Junior is set for Aug. 12 at the Oceanside Pier in Oceanside, Calif., where surfing’s top 20-and-under female surfers will compete alongside the 26th Annual Oceanside Longboard Surfing Club Contest and Beach Festival.

And on Aug. 22, 80,000 pounds of man-made snow will turn Venice Beach into a winter wonderland for the Snowboarding Rail Jam at the Supergirl Jam. Other events at the Supergirl Jam include skateboarding and inline skating contests on a custom-built street course. Additional surfing and snowboarding events are planned for November and December.—Alison A. Nieder
