Los Angeles retailer Planet Blue has teamed up with local blogger Emily Schuman of scrumptious fashion blog Cupcakes and Cashmere to create a summer loobook inspired by 1950s pinup girls and Americana.

Shot on and around the Santa Monica Pier, the lookbook captures the essence of summer on the boardwalk as well as Schuman’s sunny blonde locks and effortless, girl-next-door style.

“Emily has always been a big lover of Planet Blue, and after she mentioned us in her ’Guide to L.A.’ post back in August 2009, we approached her to collaborate on some projects together,” said Hayley Magrini, director of e-commerce for Planet Blue.

According to Magrini, the first-time guest stylist handpicked each piece and acted as both model and art director for the shoot. The lookbook also features Planet Blue’s private labels, Blue Life and Blu Moon.

Planet Blue has been known for its surf-meets-casual, relaxed style that’s endemic to Southern California. “The pier was our main focus in the shoot, but we also wanted to stay consistent to the Planet Blue beach, bohemian vibe with a girly flare,” Magrini said. “The Santa Monica Pier is a Los Angeles landmark and a major tourist attraction, [so] we wanted our customers from all over the country to experience what we see on a daily basis.”

Schuman styled herself in bursts of colors and plenty of floral prints. Her must-haves for summer include the Blue Life “Depature” top in white, Elizabeth James comfy “Grandpa” sweater and Soixante Neuf Hammered ring to toughen up her wardrobe.

Planet Blue is also giving a lucky shopper the chance to win the Soixante Neuf Hammered ring here.
