Daytime Launch

Designer Launchpad—the runway collaboration between the California Market Center, Fashion Business Inc. and the Focus trade show—returned for its third run on the CMC’s 13th floor with a new daytime schedule.

In the past, the show had been held on a weekend evening and typically drew a good turnout. But the shift to daytime seemed to boost attendance further as buyers filled the space for the noontime show on June 15. Show organizers also provided goodie bags and box lunches for the buyers.

Several designers showed jersey and sweater knits. B by Donna M showed jersey pieces in convertible styles. Pia Gladys Perey went for evening looks with floor-sweeping jersey gowns. Kerryn Leigh showed layered sweater knits in cream, taupe and tangerine.

La-El Couture showed embellished party dresses, while Lady Muse offered tailored separates, many topped with brocade coats. And Scarlet Lady Designs featured variations on the corset, ranging from the opening bridal look to edgier looks topped in black lace.—Alison A. Nieder
