Shareen X Madewell = Love

Shareen Mitchell has made quite the name for herself whipping vintage finds into must-have gems for fashionable girls in L.A. and New York. Sometimes she reworks it—moving a hem, changing a sleeve, reimagining the entire silhouette—sometimes she just pops it on a hanger, but somehow Shareen's vintage always feels fresh.

Pop into her cavernous space just north of Chinatown and you will run into starlets, eastside hipsters, giddy prom shoppers, editors, retail buyers and designers. Last weekend I popped in for a second just to say hi and ran into designer Erin Fetherston standing over a pile of brightly colored goodies. Suffice to say, Mitchell has her finger on the pulse on what tastemakers want, and, like some sort of fashion fairy godmother, she doles it out along with advice, styling tips and, often, a well-placed belt.

As if her following wasn't fervent enough, last night, a whole new group of ladies was introduced to Shareen thanks to a collaboration she did with Madewell, the mall-based retailer that focuses on well-tailored basics and cool-girl must-haves. The collab—organized by Shareen fan Gigi Guerra, the former Lucky editor and Madewell's marketing director—features shop-in-shops packed with '70s dresses, blouses, pantsuits and rompers hand-selected by Shareen that mix in seamlessly with Madewell's skinny jeans, silk blouses, little-boy blazers, colorful scarves and perfect leather sandals.

The Shareen X Madewell shop-in-shops are limited to the Madewell stores in Century City and in Manhattan's SoHo neighborhood and will remain open while supplies last. Guessing from the fine frenzy last night at the kick-off party at the Century City store, that won't be for very long. Adding to the sense of excitement was another project Shareen has up her sleeve. Camera crews followed Shareen all night, documenting the affair for "Shareen Vintage", a new reality series for the Planet Green channel that debuts this Fall.
