Bebe Makes a Stand for Its Core Collection

The Kardashians by Bebe collection made a splash when it debuted at New York Fashion Week last month. However, Bebe also wanted to ensure the fashion public knew its celebrity collaboration was not the entire story for the 212-store chain.

On March 13, the Brisbane, Calif.–based retailer produced “A Night of Fun and Fashion With Bebe” at lifestyle center The Grove in Los Angeles. The 50-look show exhibited the Spring 2010 styles from the retailer’s core Bebe line. Front and center were the Spring 2010 collection’s statement on color, which featured floral prints, neons and other bright colors.

Said Zaid Affas, Bebe’s design director, in a company statement, “For Spring 2010, our collection is very fresh and young, with lots of fun, flouncy and drapey skirts. We also believe very strongly in dresses for both daytime casualwear and special nighttime events.”

Interspersed with the Bebe runway shows were performances by dance theater troupe The Zodiac Show. Its burlesque and Broadway-style show took every step possible to be eclectic. Heavy-metal guitarist Nalle Colt played a few bars from Jimi Hendrix’s version of “The Star Spangled Banner” as dancers shimmied around him.
