Lords of Liverpool Takes Inspiration From The Beatles

With the Lords of Liverpool, all you need is love to launch a new tops line.

Only a few months old, the Los Angeles apparel company is reaching back to the 1960s and 1970s to use the lyrics from as many as 250 Beatles songs that will be emblazoned on T-shirts and hoodies geared for young women and men who weren’t even alive when the legendary music group was at its peak.

Lords of Liverpool, founded by former retailer Jack Dovan early this year and headed by his childhood friend Ben Kaczor, is paying royalties to Sony/ATV Music Publishing to use the lyrics, which were written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

“The lyrics transcend generations. I don’t think there is a 65-year-old person to a 10-year-old person who hasn’t seen or heard of The Beatles, whether it was by listening to their CDs, watching movies or TV,” said Kaczor, chief executive of Double Link Us, the parent company of Lords of Liverpool. “They are all over.”

Kaczor has many years of experience in the apparel industry. For more than a decade, he worked for Hot Kiss founder Moshe Tsabag as the label’s vice president of sales. Before that, he worked in sales with Tsabag at his previous clothing line, called Yes Clothing Co. Now Kaczor is taking his sales experience to grow Lords of Liverpool.

The label’s graphic designs are created by in-house designer Darren Craig, who is incorporating a certain psychedelic color scheme to the T-shirts and tops that delve into the days of the Love Generation.

One T-shirt, with the lyrics “Lucy in the sky with diamonds,” has a bright rainbow sweeping across a white background.

Recently, contestant Katie Stevens of “American Idol” was seen sporting a “Let it be” T-shirt by Lords of Liverpool.

The 100 percent cotton T-shirts and hoodies are made in California and wholesale for $8.50 to $10. They have been carried by small specialty stores such as Kitson in Los Angeles and Dari in the Los Angeles suburb of Studio City as well as at the Mexican department-store chain Liverpool.
