ASR, We Hardly Knew You

When news broke this week that ASR would be shuttering its doors, we were super bummed. The show, part trade show, part party circuit, was an industry mainstay. It used to feel like the beating heart of the industry, where all the surf/skate tribe got together on their home turf to check in, show off. The last couple of years haven't been quite so raucous, thanks to a down economy and an exodus of some key categories and some major and independent brands. But that doesn't stop us from reminiscing about the way things used to be.

A Volcom ho-down, complete with toilet seats and overalls

Vans-branded waffles. Good for getting over last night's Vice party.

I don't know.

Crossroads, which partnered with ASR for two seasons, was all about the skaters.

There's a rad photo essay dedicated to ASR on Apparel News' digital edition, on the "Web Only" page. Check it out. We've got pics of a young Dov Charney, Jim Shubin showing some skin, derby girls, bikini models and skaters. Good times.
