Beverly Hills Fashion Festival: Elie Tahari
Elegance ruled in the Spring 2011 collection presented by Israeli-born designer Elie Tahari, who kicked off the first Beverly Hills Fashion Festival, held Nov. 6 on the grounds of the old Robinsons-May department store.
Tahari is known for his understated sophistication that lets a woman’s beauty rule. And his Spring collection embodied that.
The color spectrum was kept to a modest range of white, black and beige with gold lameacute; pieces spicing up the action.
The New York–based designer favored off-the-shoulder silhouettes that found their way into tops, dresses and evening gowns.
Tahari’s simple lines and designs, which ranged from suits to evening gowns, were jazzed up with sequins, feathery fringe and leather accents. Sequins were used to accent shoulders and tops. Feathery fringe floated along the hems of dresses or around the tips of sleeves. A suit with a leather collar and leather sleeves gave oomph to a classic piece of clothing that can look drab.
The collection’s skirts were practical with comfortable pockets on the side and hemlines that brushed up against the knees. But Tahari took that simple design and added scrumptious fabrics that shimmered under the catwalk lights.
His pants floated down the runway. Some had cigarette-leg silhouettes. Others were more billowy.
The collection showed that Tahari still lives up to his reputation for beautiful, urban clothing.—Deborah Belgum
