Cooper + Art + Market = Awesome

The good folks at the Cooper Design Space are bringing a little culture to the upcoming Fashion Market by turning their lobby into an art gallery. Working with gallerist Tim Yarder of Tim Yarder Fine Art, the Cooper has announced plans for an ongoing exhibition series to be hosted in the building's renovated lobby and in its penthouse space. The first installation in the series will debut October 15 with an installation of artist Michelle Mattie’s “Natural Beauty”—a collection of dramatic photographs of flowers. Come by for cocktails and a little fine art gazing from 4pm–6pm.

Here’s what Mattie had to say about her work:

“When I pointed my close-up lens for the first time at the heart of a flower, I was disturbed and surprised. The delicate corolla of the bloom was exposing a blatant spectacle of sexuality. The stigma and the antlers were calling to sex with the brutal persuasion of Mapplethorpe. The appetite of nature is not demure, it is blatant, sensual, inspiring, and exhilarating. I take such pleasure examining its beauty.”
