L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Green Humanitarian Initiative Show

A newmix of eco collections was featured at the Green Humanitarian Initiative Show, held Oct. 16 at the Sunset Gower Studios.

It was the sixth time a Green Humanitarian Initiative Show was produced, but it was the first time that labels Kristinit, KeoKjay, and Jonauml;no took a bow at the show. Emily Factor was the show’s one returning label.

Los Angeles–based Emily Factor showed 22 looks, which featured organic silks and prints made with eco-friendly AirDye technology. Factor’s looks included gowns, dresses, high-waisted shorts and leggings.

Kristinit, another Los Angeles–based label, showed 15 looks using vintage silks, organic linens and wax prints from the Ivory Coast.

Cambodia-based KeoKjay showed 15 casual looks, including jumpsuits and mid-length dresses, some with intricate strap work. The label’s American creative director, Rachel Faller, built the company in 2008 to create jobs for impoverished Cambodian women.

Pittsburgh-based Jonauml;no showed 15 looks for of its Mallorca collection, which featured eco-fabrics such as flax, bamboo linen, bamboo-eco cashmere for pants and off-shoulder tops.—Andrew Asch
