Fashion Los Angeles' Michael Venedicto to Host Pop-Up Event for Designers from Cancelled Ru

Michael Venedicto, the co-founder of the planned Fashion Los Angeles event, has stepped in to help the designers scheduled to show at a recently cancelled Los Angeles Fashion Week event by providing a location for them to showcase their collections on Oct. 23.

The cancelled event, called Los Angeles Fashion Week, was scheduled to show the collections of 18 designers during its Oct. 21–25, but it was called off on Oct. 20 when organizers ran into permitting problems for the venue in an industrial section of downtown Los Angeles.

Venedicto has teamed up with Kelsi Smith and her Two Point Oh LA organization, a group that includes 80 Los Angeles bloggers specializing in fashion and beauty, to produce an alternate event for the designers whose shows were cancelled.Venedicto has offered all the designers space to show their collections at a Bloggers’ Cafeacute; event in Fashion Los Angeles’ loft space in downtown Los Angeles.

So far, three designers— L'une collection, Daisy Gonzalez and Paulina Lopez—have agreed to participate in the event, which is open to the fashion community. Guests will have a chance to meet the designers and view their collections at the event, which will be held from 4-8 p.m. at 600 S. Spring St., suite 1708.

“There will be no exchange of money, there is no underlining agendahellip;we simply want the designers to show their work,” Venedicto said, in a statement. “We also hope that the designers do not perceive this to be a representation of the City of Los Angeles nor its fashion industry. Considering the current economic difficulties, it is the wrong time for a fashion presentation of this magnitude to be cancelled and for talented designers to be left stranded.”

Organizers are also encouraging the fashion community to lend its support by donating time and products (such as models, mannequins, hair and makeup services).
