L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Kooey

The swimwear line Kooey from Australia turned out to be the wonder from down under.

Every piece that came down the runway at the Sunset Gower Studios on Oct. 15 turned out to be a hit.

For the Spring/Summer 2011 season, the Aussie brand’s director, Nikki Silverthorne, and her design team took their cues from the central desert region of their isolated country for color inspiration and art.

The striking prints were created by indigenous artist Anne Hanning, who supplied a rich palette of vivid shades inspired by the bright pinks and oranges, fiery reds, and sunset purples that permeate Australia.

Silhouettes included beaded bikini tops and bottoms, crossover halters and boy-leg bottom bikinis, and strapless one pieces, as well as one-shoulder crossovers suits. There were plenty of high-waist bikini bottoms, and several swim styles came in reversible fabrics.—Deborah Belgum
