L.A. Fashion Week Spring 2011: Teeki

Contrast was the name of the game for Teeki swimwear designer Lindsay Hemric.

Her bikini styles coming down the runway at the Sunset Gower Studios in Hollywood on Oct. 15 had a sort of mix-and-match look.

Bottoms were offered up in a totally different fabric and color than tops. But the marriage went well. Think of a black-sequined bottom matched with a pink and white bandeau top or a lavender bottom with a red and white polka-dot top.

Hemric, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, grew up in North Carolina, but water sports was one of her things—as well as dreaming of stylish bikinis.

So when she launched her swimwear line in Los Angeles two years ago, she not only took form to heart but also function. Her swimwear is made of polyester fabric that comes from recycled water bottles. It’s a fabric that proves to be more resistant to moisture than bamboo fabric, another eco option.

Hemric’s colors tended toward blacks, whites, lavenders and pinks. A touch of garden whimsy was seen on a bikini made of white fabric printed with delicate yellow roses.

Bikinis came in triangle and bandeau tops, and bottoms ranged from below-the-navel looks to high-rise silhouettes—perfect for riding out the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean.—Deborah Belgum
