Rodarte Exhibit Comes West

Black Swan's Natalie Portman and Laura Mulleavy on set

Mark your calendars, kids! The Mulleavy sisters will be presenting their first solo West Coast exhibit come March. Rodarte:State of Matters will show from March 4 through June 5 at the Museum of Contemporary Art at the MOCA Pacific Design Center.

According to the MOCA website, the exhibit will present "recent work in fashion and costume design by Kate and Laura Mulleavy of Rodarte. Installed as a series of interrelated conceptual vignettes, both static and in motion, the installation portrays garments as charged sculptural objects." I'm not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds awesome.

Rodarte:State of Matters is curated by MOCA's associate curator, Rebecca Morse, and designed by Alexandre de Betak and will feature pieces from Rodarte’s Spring 2010, Fall 2010, and Fall 2008 runway collections, as well as original ballet costumes designed by Kate and Laura for the feature film, Black Swan. (The Fall 2008 collection, you will remember, is the one with all those amazing spider web knits and "slasher" dresses inspired by Japanese horror films. "Charged sculptural objects" indeed!)
