The Victorian Era Visits the Runway

Los Angeles designer Karen Capili isn't new to the world of fashion, but her collection is. It debuted for Spring/Summer 2011.

Her over-the-top dresses came floating down the runway at the Sunset Gower Studios this last weekend during L.A. Fashion Weekend.

The Philippines-born designer, who moved to Los Angeles in 2000, said her inspiration for the gowns came from the Victorian era. I was thinking more of Marie Antoinette. They were fanciful, no matter what the era.

She said the line brings together her love for formality combined with the hipness of the 1980s. Here's a few looks from the show. Check out extensive coverage of L.A. Fashion Week on our site.
