FIDM Pays Homage to Titanic Anniversary

April 15 marks the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic. The Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising will pay homage with a presentation on April 14 at the design school’s Irvine campus by Kevin Jones, FIDM Museum curator and fashion and Titanic historian.

The event will include stories of some of the ship’s passengers, among them British couturier Lucile, also known as Lady Duff-Gordon, and her husband, both of whom survived. Jones will also discuss the Edwardian era and the fashions of the day worn by Titanic passengers—from first class to steerage—as well as the crew. There will also be an exhibition of 1912 fashions from the Helen Larson Historial Fashion Collection.

Titled “Voyage to the Past,” the exhibition will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and admission will include champagne, savories and sweets. Tickets are $100 and can be ordered here.
