Bread & Butter Expands With High Fidelity

The 11th edition of Bread & Butter, an international trade show for selected brands, opened its doors for its Jan. 18–20 run with this year’s “High Fidelity” theme.

The show took 35 days to set up, with new areas such as D.O.C.K., the Department of Contemporary Keynotes, for mature street and skatewear. L.O.C.K. (Labels of Common Kin) was extended due to success in previous seasons, and Fire Department was added, to further celebrate quality craftsmanship. The Treasury, located at the gates of the Tempelhof airport location, was specifically for accessories lines, while the Urban Superior areas were increased in floor space.
More than 500 top brands were in attendance, offering their must-have ranges for Autumn/Winter ’12.The season’s collections on display reinforced an Alpine theme with gilets and Alpine-inspired patterns being applied across entire garments and around necklines for Autumn/Winter ’12. Among the key trends noted for menswear, lightweight chambray and darker indigo washes provide a range of washes and styles for denim shirts. Chinos continue to be a popular trouser option, with a clear move away from classic camel, and navy heralds an influx of styles in rich shades of jade, burgundy and khaki. Graphic T-shirts remain a popular wardrobe staple, with illustrative, photographic and typography designs all noted. Meanwhile, contemporary outerwear makes references to retro styles such as the aviator and biker jacket. Bobbles or pom-poms add a childlike feel to beanie hats and prove to be a key styling element to add while backpack shapes take inspiration from classic skater styles and satchel bags.

For womenswear, classic shirts and blouses have a softer finish in lightweight fabrications with the use of contrasting sleeve panels to add color-block detail. Motif, graphic prints and block prints cover leggings and harem trousers. Tailored jackets are noted as a key contemporary outerwear option, with classic cuts undergoing a modern makeover. Simple jersey sweatshirts and track jackets continue to be a wardrobe staple with contrasting panels, the application of prints and zip detailing at the shoulders helping to add interest to this classically simple separate. Hiking-boot influences are noted across both female and male footwear styles. Meanwhile, snoods are a popular cold-weather accessory, with styles ranging from lightweight loose knits to chunkier styles using cable knit and plaited patterns to increase density.
