Robert Rodriguez Adds a New Edition

A look from the Spring 2012 collection for Robert Rodriguez Collection

Los Angeles designer Robert Rodriguez is expanding.

He already has his Robert Rodriguez Collection of contemporary wear, his Robbi Nikki sportswear label and his Black Label brand for eveningwear. Now he is launching Robert Rodriguez Edition, a contemporary capsule collection that will be ready for prime time in August.

The collection will consist of must-haves for a woman's wardrobe. Key items are soft-suiting jackets in boyfriend and tailored silhouettes, trousers in cropped, skinny and flared styles, menswear shirting with feminine details, soft blouses, luxe T-shirts, dramatically draped dresses and pencil skirts. Prices will range from $295 to $595 for sportswear and $695 to $1,195 for leather and outerwear pieces.

Silhouettes will be more tailored and fabrics will include draped cupro jersey, silk texture burnout, stretch shirting and signature silk prints.

Rodriguez was born in Cuba, grew up in Miami and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Shortly after graduating, he worked in a design position with Christian Dior. After 20 years working for other labels, he launched his own brand in 2003 with business partner Nicola Guarna. In 2010, it was sold to The Jones Group Inc. for $28 million.

Rodriguez remains the chief designer and has kept his design office in Los Angeles.
