H&M Opening in City of Industry

Swedish retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) staked a bigger claim to the Southern California fashion market.

The company announced July 5 that it will open a 21,000-square-foot store at Puente Hills Mall in the City of Industry, Calif., located 21 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles. The mall is owned by Glimcher Realty Trust, a Columbus, Ohio–based company that recently acquired luxury retail center Malibu Lumber Yard for $35.5 million. At press time, H&M did not mention a scheduled opening date for the store.

The Puente Hills H&M will offer collections for women, men, juniors and young men along with “store-within-store” boutiques for accessories, lingerie, sports apparel and maternity, as well as a children’s collection. H&M’s Puente Hills Mall neighbors will include competing fast-fashion stores Forever 21 and Cotton On, as well as mall-based specialty shops such as Hollister, Hot Topic and Victoria’s Secret.

On May 24, H&M opened a store at the South Bay Galleria retail center in Redondo Beach, Calif. H&M has more than 50 locations in California and a fleet of 245 stores spread across the United States.

The Swedish retailer also is well-known for its collaborations with famous designers. In November, it will debut an exclusive collaboration collection with French fashion house Maison Martin Margiela.—Andrew Asch
