Chambers Fall 2012

For designer Devin Carlson, Los Angeles Fashion Week is familiar territory. Typically, he shows his Fremont collection of men’s and women’s contemporary apparel. But for his March 9 show at Concept L.A. Fashion Week at Ace Gallery Los Angeles, Carlson showed Chambers, the menswear collection he designs with Matt Goldman.

The two showed the line last season at Gen Art’s Fresh Faces in Fashion photo-shoot event, but they followed up with a runway presentation at Concept this season.

The look on the runway was outdoor with an edge. Scandinavian-print cardigan sweaters were layered over skinny jeans and peaked out from under leather jackets. There were plaid shirts worn under a down vest or tied grunge-style around the waist. Jeans were cut lean and came in dark and distressed washes.

Carlson and Goldman’s outerwear were understated but packed with subtle details. Baseball jackets came in traditional styles with leather sleeves, as well as quilted versions. There was a tailored barn coat, another style with shawl collar and a third in a splatter-print jacket that had a camouflage effect.—Alison A. Nieder
