Cherokee Arrives in Russia

If you're traveling through Russia and see a few billboards that look familiar, you have Cherokee to thank for that.

This week, the California company entered the Russian market. Cherokee branded apparel for men, women and children is being sold through a licensing deal at Magnit stores across that country. The ad campaign for the brand launched on Monday (March 19), with billboards in 25 cities, newspaper and TV ads and in-store monitors.

The clothes are very much like what you would see in the United States, but Cherokee has adjusted the brand to the specific needs of the Russian market. Prices range from $5 to $30.

A number of manufacrturers will be producing Cherokee clothing for Magnit.

Cherokee is following a host of U.S. apparel companies looking for sales in Russia. A recent trade show called Collection Premiere Moscow showcased Los Angeles brands such as Single, Guess and Joe's Jeans.

Cherokee's largest customer is Target, where the company's license got its start. Cherokee is also sold in Tesco stores in Europe and Zellers stores in Canada.
